Maharaja is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ram Murali. The film is jointly produced under the banners of The Root, Think Studios, and Passion Studios. Maharaja Story
It is a peaceful barber working at Ramki Salon in Chennai. His life takes a drastic turn when a truck crashes into his home, killing his wife, while his daughter Jothi miraculously survives because a dustbin accidentally falls on her, protecting her. Maharaj and Jothi affectionately name the dustbin “Lakshmi.”
One day, vijay visits the police station to file a report about Lakshmi’s theft, explaining that an armed gang broke into his house, attacked him, and stole Lakshmi. Initially, the police show no interest in investigating such a trivial matter. However, when Maharaj promises a bribe of ₹5 lakhs to catch the culprits, the police and an informal informer, Nallasivam, become involved in the case.
Maharaja Release Date
it was released in theatres on 14th June 2024. Apart from its original Tamil language, the film was also dubbed and released in Telugu. A press screening was held two days before the release, on 12th June. Initially planned for a May 2024 release, the film was postponed to June for unspecified reasons.
The film premiered in Los Angeles on 28th June 2024 and was chosen as one of the closing night selections at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. Additionally, Maharaj is set to release in China on 29th November 2024, expanding its reach to international audiences.
Maharaja Budget and Box Office Collection
The budget of this film was ₹20 crores, making it a mid-range production. With its compelling storyline, Vijay Sethupathi’s stellar performance, and unique execution, the film captivated the audience.
